10/22/18 (Richmond, VA) – From heroin to painkillers, the Commonwealth of Virginia continues to struggle with a high number of overdoses. To help address this issue, Diamond Healthcare Corporation (Diamond) is opening two new outpatient alcohol and addiction treatment programs in Gloucester and Richmond, VA, bringing the total in Virginia to five.
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a six-week program for individuals with addiction issues. The four-day a week structure provides addiction education and counseling components while encouraging clients to actively apply the recovery skills to their daily lives as productive members of their community. This supportive IOP can serve in a continuum of care following a residential treatment program or as appropriate initial therapy based on criteria set by the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
Stephen Simmers, LPC, NCC, CSAC, MAC, CCFAS, Program Coordinator at Diamond’s Gloucester IOP, has been running groups at this location since September. “I continue to see the increasing need for intensive substance abuse programs (IOP) that fit in the level of care between individual outpatient and inpatient substance abuse treatment services,” said Stephen. “Because our IOP programs run in the evenings, from six to nine o’clock, our clients can continue to work and maintain their current living situation while receiving services right in their community, he added.”
The Gloucester IOP is currently accepting new patients. For those seeking additional information, please contact Stephen at 804-322-9066. This program is made possible through a collaboration with Chesapeake Counseling Associates, PE, and is located within their offices at 7280 York Avenue, Gloucester, VA.
Additionally, Diamond has an agreement with Christian Counseling and Associates in Glen Allen, VA and plans to begin IOP services in early November at 12000 Wyndham Lake Drive Suite B.
