To address the opioid crisis, Congress passed the “Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities” (SUPPORT) Act that expands Medicare coverage for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) treatment services.
The SUPPORT Act requires Medicare to:
1/13/2020 (Richmond, VA) – According to data analyzed by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), drug related deaths are higher in the first two quarters of 2019 than in previous years. The predicted total of drug related deaths for the entire year, 1,547, would surpass all other years. To help curb the increase of addiction use and overdose, Diamond Healthcare Corporation, (Diamond) is bringing their addiction treatment experience to the Alexandria community.
1/6/20 (Richmond, VA) – Diamond Healthcare Corporation (Diamond) is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen (Steve) Merz, FACHE, as Executive Vice President Operations.

Palomar Health, CA - Diamond has signed a consulting agreement with Palomar Health in San Diego County to assist with the development of a freestanding psychiatric pavilion and crisis services unit.
Steward Holy Family Hospital, MA - Diamond has been engaged by Steward Holy Family Hospital, a two-hospital system in Methuen and Haverhill, MA, to manage four behavioral health units, with a total of 76 beds serving geriatric, adult and adolescent patients.
Seventeen-bed behavioral health facility to open Dec. 26.

The emergency rooms in Banner Health’s three Northern Colorado hospitals treated more than 1,600 people experiencing mental-health crises in 2017, and the medical staffs had to transfer those patients to psychiatric facilities, usually out of the area.
A Few Things to Note… Always an anticipated announcement, in early November, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the Calendar Year (CY) 2020 Physician Fee Schedule (i) and the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) and Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) Payment System (ii) Final Rules.
